There were three bands this night and I liked all of them. It was nice to hear some grooves again. This is a big warehouse space with galleries on the main floor and upstairs around the edges, leaving the central space open for two stories. The first two concerts were held in a strange loading dock type area so the band is below the audience members who stand around the edge. First was Dusty Brough, guitar and Julien Cantelm, drums. These two are new to me and I am glad to learn about them.
Second was the Matson 2, twin brothers, Jonathan, drums, and Jerod, guitars. One can tell these two have performed together a lot - tight, hot playing. The third group. the Ian Tordella Group, played on “flat land” not in the pit. This group consisted of Tordella, sax; Richard Sellers, drums; Joey Carano, guitar, and visitors from NYC, Danny Weller, bass; and Jeff Miles, guitar. It was great to see/hear Danny again. He always seems to love playing as well as being really good. I had not heard Ian perform before was like his tone/sound. It’s nice to be going out in SD to hear lots of musicians I didn’t know about. Robert Bush’s professional critique is here: http://bit.ly/zvmwvJ
