Jeff Parker Trio (Chicago)

This trio has a history. In 1985, Jeff Parker (guitar) and Chris Lopes (bass) met as 18 year old students at Berklee College of Music, and have been playing together ever since. In 1988, they founded a band called The Last Kwartet, and moved to Chicago where Lopes was the original bassist in the influential Chicago group Isotope 217 as well as the Chicago Underground Orchestra. Shortly thereafter they met up with a young Chad Taylor (drums), and the triangle was created. The fruits of this long musical journey can be found on Jeff Parker’s albums Like-Coping, The Relatives (Thrill Jockey) and Bright Light In Winter (Delmark). This trio examines our post-modern musical universe via tuneful compositions by all three members, and an elastic, dynamic approach to improvisation and group interplay -- rooted in our familiar musical traditions, but also searching for the new ones. The concert at Fresh Sound Music Series will include selections from each of the trio’s releases.
