"Songs for Voice, Loops, and Toys," a solo voice program of a cappella, electronically processed, and improvised vocal music. Incorporating technology that range in cost from 99 cents to $999, Bleckmann draws from his vast range in jazz, new music, and performance art with a repertoire that includes jazz standards, Guillaume de Machaut, Meredith Monk, and his own compositions and improvisations. This concert illustrates the modern voice in jazz and improvised music, using all facets of the human voice including extended vocal techniques as well as lo and high-tech technology. The use of looping devices and other live electronic processing has become more and more common in jazz circles and among forward thinking vocalists. Much more than a showcase for electronic gimmickry, this concert opens traditional jazz and new music to expand its sonic horizon.

Funded in part through Meet The Composer's MetLife Creative Connections program.
