This ensemble performs music composed during the last ten years and doesn’t provide program notes. This concert there were three tiny exceptions - 2 pieces composed in 2000 and program notes provided only after the concert. The concert was held on the 10th floor venue, a nice space with a stage and seating for about 100. I went particularly to hear the two pieces by Eve Beglarian and that was a good decision. The first piece was Eve’s “Night Psalms,” a lovely piece with descending arpeggios throughout. The second half led by Eve’s “I’m Worried Now, But I Won’t Be Worried Long” for violin and electronics that starts from a recording she made of leaky pipes in a bathroom at the Beijing Conservatory. This was followed by Julia Wolfe’s “Earring.” This was a glorious but way-too-short piece. I will try to find this to buy and listen to soon and often. The other composers were Robert Paterson, David MacDonald, Colin Holter, and Dan Visconti.
